Chair’s Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences at Texas A&M- University-San Antonio! We are delighted that you took the time to visit our site to learn about the many exciting things happening in our Department. Our faculty members come from the nation’s best programs to deliver top-quality instruction, mentoring, and research opportunities that will help you reach your academic and professional goals. Programs in our Department include criminology and criminal justice, sociology, political science, applied arts and sciences, as well as military science. As of fall 2016, there are 939 students enrolled in our programs.

Our faculty members are committed to student learning and success. Following completion of their undergraduate education, many of our students pursue doctoral and master’s degrees in areas such as the social sciences, law, public policy, and counseling.  Active involvement by faculty in community programs and research projects afford students with many opportunities for experiential learning and critical thinking to understand and solve real-world problems.
