Common Experience 2017 - Theme Selection is Underway!

The selection for the 2017-2018 Common Experience Theme and Common Read is underway and we welcome your assistance. The Office of First Year Experience is currently seeking recommendations from the campus community on the book that you think all first year students at Texas A&M-San Antonio should read. Submissions can be submitted by using the following link: https://orgsync.com/130375/forms/217659.  Deadline to submit is Thursday, October 27, 2016 by 5pm

Submission for the Common Read can be individual or team based. We ask that you provide a brief summary of the book, a possible theme the book connects to, and how the book could be used to meet one of the following goals:

  1. To cultivate a common intellectual conversation across campus among the faculty, staff, and students, and with people from the local communities in the region.
  2. To engage, especially, all first year students in a common intellectual experience.
  3. To strengthen the sense of community among faculty, staff, and students at A&M-San Antonio.
  4. To enhance student participation in the intellectual life of the campus by encouraging open discussion, civil discourse, and critical thinking about a common theme and text.

Selection of the Common Experience Theme and Read will be made by a team of faculty, staff, and students in February and will be announced to the A&M-San Antonio community in March 2017. If you have any questions please contact Heather Olague or Kat Whitaker with the Office of First Year Experience at 210-784-1399 or 210-784-1437.
